Distance
and time
differences
did not push
us
into these positions.
It’s
hard to blame
ourselves,
even harder
to
blame what we let ourselves
say.
Too
late.
Those
words now stand
between
us,
taking
up the
space
that
once fit
a
table for two.
LARGE
and INTIMIDATING
they
stand—the sum
of
our utterances = a statue
commemorating
our
past
suspicions
and senseless
rage:
our m
onu
mental mistakes.
Statues
are
made so that
we
cannot
not
remember
the
past and what it’s
made
of.
I am sorry
I
want to add. But
everything
has already been
set
in stone,
already
welcoming
the mould.
